Damian Castello Counselling Counselling, Psychotherapy & Supervision in East London and Online

What is therapy?

Therapy is a one to one opportunity, over either short or long-term periods, to help you bring about effective change or enhance your wellbeing.
My role is to support and enable you to explore your thoughts, feelings and behaviours by talking openly and freely. All information shared between us will remain strictly confidential (unless someone is at risk of harm) to ensure that a strong, trusting, safe relationship can be built.

What is the difference between counselling and psychotherapy?

The British Association for Counselling Psychotherapy (BACP) does not make distinctions between these two terms as they both fall under the umbrella that covers a range of talking therapies. However, the term counselling is often used to describe short-term work and focuses typically on one particular issue that the individual wants to address, whereas the term psychotherapy is often used to describe longer term work, which allows the individual to explore different issues, including, past, present relationships and traumas in depth.

What I offer

I am an experienced counsellor and psychotherapist. I am fully insured and a registered member of the BACP. To learn more about me and my qualifications, Click here.

It can feel quite daunting starting therapy and it is therefore important that we work together to create an environment where you feel safe and comfortable to explore what it is that has brought you to therapy. It can take a lot of courage to share your innermost thoughts and feelings with someone, particularly if you have had past experiences, where you did not feel heard or listened to; felt dismissed or your trust was broken. Sometimes a natural response is to hold back parts of yourself from others and guard your heart for fear of a repeat experience of the pain, hurt, sadness, disappointment and anger.

I want you to know that I am fully committed to supporting you to achieve your goals in therapy. You will have my undivided attention and I will accept you for who you are. Trust is built over time and I want you to know that we can go at your own pace in therapy.

Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, I am working exclusively online via Zoom, a secure end-to-end encrypted video call platform and by telephone. The health and safety of my clients is imperative. I will return to face-to-face work as soon as it is practicable, alongside my online practice. Working online and by telephone has enabled me to be more flexible in my practice and offer more appointment times.
I see clients during the daytime and evening from Monday – Thursday.
I offer short-term and longer-term open-ended therapy, with each session taking place on a weekly basis and for 50 minutes.

Who I work with?

I work with individuals (aged 18+), organisations, counsellors, and psychotherapists.
I aim to be sensitive to the cultural and ethnic origins of individuals and to everyone’s religious beliefs and sexual orientation.

What's next?

Contact me for a free 20-minute Consultation
Choosing a therapist can feel overwhelming, which is why I offer a free and informal 20-minute telephone call as an opportunity for you to talk through any questions you might have about therapy, prior to booking an initial session with me. It also gives you a chance to get to know me and understand how I work.

After your initial enquiry, by phone or email, we will schedule a time for our initial session. This session will take place online or by telephone, whichever method feels most comfortable for you.

Initial session (50-minutes)
The initial session is treated like a first counselling session, however, in that time we will discuss your need for counselling, goals and answer any questions you have about the process of therapy. If you feel you want to go ahead then we would arrange a regular time to meet.
There is no obligation after our initial session to go ahead with counselling, some people may change their mind or feel that therapy is not for them and that is fine. In order for counselling to be successful, you have to be ready and willing to fully engage in the process.

Starting your therapeutic journey
After we decide to work together, we will agree to meet at the same time on a weekly basis. Each session will last 50 minutes.

"I will be forever grateful to you for getting me to where I am now. There have been a few challenges this year but because of our sessions I've been able to navigate my way through them without too much drama and have not even come close to going back to my old ways."
